The Route
From the dramatic coastline of Portpatrick through the forests of Galloway the picturesque hills of the Southern Uplands to the historic towns and countryside of the east coast the Southern Upland Way covers the best of what Scotland has to offer.
At 214 miles the full coast to coast route is an incredible challenge for the experienced hill walker. The Three Marches provide a more manageable length for those with less time or who prefer a more relaxed pace.

Our ranger team divide the route up into 12 sections. These sections are designed to be manageable in a single day, though some are shorter than others. Each section has unique features, and can be very different from one another. Discover more about each section below.
